Transportation Programs

Currently, ACCAP only provides transportation services in the form of the Medical Assistance Transportation Program (MATP). Learn all about MATP below:

What is MATP

The Medical Assistance Transportation Program (MATP) is a transportation service available to Medical Assistance (MA) consumers throughout Pennsylvania. This program is funded by Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS).

The MATP offers transportation to medical care or services from a MA provider. The MATP is required to provide the least costly, most appropriate transportation that will meet your needs.

You can use the MATP transportation to travel to any health care service. This encompasses appointments with any doctor, dentist, psychologist or psychiatrist, as well as visits to drug and alcohol treatment clinics, or any other MA provider. You can also use the MATP to go to the pharmacy for prescriptions, to the hospital for tests, or to get to medical equipment suppliers.

You cannot use the MATP for:
     • Emergency ambulance transportation
     • Non-medical trips such as for grocery shopping or for social activities
     • Medical care that is not covered by Medical Assistance
     • VA Medical Centers
     • WIC Appointments

Mileage Reimbursement

If you have a vehicle, or if you have someone who is available to provide transportation to your medical appointments, you may be eligible for mileage reimbursement. If you are eligible, we will reimburse you at the current rate per mile as specified by DHS.  We will also reimburse you for your actual parking expenses and tolls if you provide receipts. Trip summary sheets are available to take with you to your appointments.  Trips are reimbursed within the following counties: Allegheny, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, Jefferson, and Westmoreland.  No trips more than 45 days old from the date our office receives it will be reimbursed. Trip summary sheets can be mailed to our office or placed in the outside lock box at 326 S. Water St., Suite 1, Kittanning, PA 16201.

How to Apply for MATP

Individuals of all ages may qualify for the Medical Assistance Transportation Program (MATP) if the following requirements are met:

  • Must be a resident of Armstrong County

  • Have a valid Pennsylvania Medical Assistance Insurance Card

  • Have eligible program codes verified through MATP

The application process for adults 18 years of age and older begins with a request for an application from the MATP office. Applications for minors are also available upon request. Temporary residents or emergency situations may require a 30 day application. During this 30 day period, if eligible, an application may be completed over the phone and you will be granted temporary transportation services. During this time, an application is mailed to your home to be completed and returned to our office before the 30 day expiration date. If not completed within the 30 day period, transportation services will be suspended.

Do you need help applying? Our experienced MATP staff is available to help you with any questions you may have, or to help you fill out your application. Applications can be mailed to you, or an in-person appointment can be scheduled at our office.
